A journey of passion, perseverance and community
Funny how life works, right?
When I look back at how I ended up running Ruscoe Clinic Laser, it's like a winding road that led me right where I needed to be. It's a tale of family dreams, personal goals, and that relentless urge to create something meaningful.
Something that could sustain my family and offer me that work-life balance I craved. You know how it is, being a mum to two lively boys, a five-year-old and a four-year-old. It's a whirlwind of school runs, playdates, and those beautiful, messy moments of motherhood.
But amid all that noise, I had this quiet dream. My sister Izzie, my mum Selina, and I would often chat about how amazing it would feel to work together, to run our own clinic specialising in aesthetic and laser treatments. It was a dream, a vision that seemed just a tad too far, yet not entirely out of reach. Little did I know, it would take a worldwide pandemic to push me to chase that dream and make it a reality.
Making the Leap: From Dreaming to Doing
Everything changed when the lockdown arrived. The world turned upside down, but amid the chaos, an opportunity emerged. It was the perfect moment to pursue that dream that had lingered in my mind, always tempting me. So, I took the plunge and enrolled in my Level 4 Laser and Skin Rejuvenation training. With two little ones at home, it was essential to create something just for me, something I could nurture and develop into a successful business over time. The next challenge was finding the ideal space to establish my practice.
As fate would have it, the answer was closer than I thought, within my own family. We transformed my mums garage into a warm and welcoming clinic. This setup allowed us to work together, just as we had always dreamed. My sister Izzie and my mum Selina became my pillars of support. Together, we began providing laser hair removal and skin rejuvenation treatments. And that's how we turned our aspiration into our everyday reality.
The Rollercoaster of Running Your Own Show
Yes, being your own boss is one hell of a ride. You're a mum, an entrepreneur, a jack-of-all-trades, and it can be a lot. But there's no greater feeling than seeing your own creation thrive. Each small victory? A huge win. Every challenge? A chance to show the world what you're made of. The real magic? It's all about connections. When you steer your own ship, you need a crew you can count on: family, friends, and a whole community of beauty buffs.
Without their support, the journey would be a lot lonelier. Lucky for me, I'm surrounded by some incredibly talented people who've shown me the ropes, shared their secrets, and boosted me up when I needed it.
Building Bonds: Collaboration over competition
In this line of work, it's all about who you know, and making strong connections. It's easy to think it's a dog-eat-dog world, but l'm a big believer in collaboration over competition.
When we pull together, we all win. This outlook has been a cornerstone of my journey, and I've found that the beauty industry is chock-full of kind, talented people who genuinely want to help each other succeed. I've always aimed to foster a supportive tribe, and that's been a massive part of why the clinic has thrived. It's not just about the services we provide, it's about the bonds we form and the trust we cultivate with our clients. Word of mouth, referrals, and heartfelt praise from people who believe in what you're doing can make a world of difference.
Looking back on my accomplishments, I'm bursting with pride and gratitude. Launching a business, especially one that merges family, passion, and profession, has been incredibly rewarding. It's not always a breeze, but the thrill of doing what I love every day and having more time with my kids is priceless. I can't wait to keep growing Ruscoe Clinic Laser, broaden our offerings, and most importantly, keep working in harmony with other pros in the field. My journey is far from done, and I'm excited to see where this road takes me.
To anyone contemplating diving into the beauty or aesthetics industry, l'd say: Don't wait for the "right time." The road won't always be smooth, but if you're fired up, you'll find your way. Cultivate a strong network, lean on your cheerleaders, and above all, have faith in yourself.
You've got this. For me, the magic formula has been family, teamwork, and community. At the end of the day, my advice is straightforward: Take the leap! Because with passion, elbow grease, and a bit of backing, the sky's the limit.
